Caimito or star apple as many people call it is a fragrantly sweet fruit. Once ripened it produces a radiating star pattern thus the reason for its name. There are three varieties, dark purple, green, and yellow. Currently we have both dark purple and green varieties. It’s inner pulp is mildly sweet and juicy once ripened. It’s important to avoid eating the skin as it can be tart. Star apples are high in vitamin C, vitamin B3 (Niacin), iron and fiber. They also have amino acids that are beneficial to our bodies such as Lysine. Overall they make for a delicious and nutritious snack. Served best when chilled.
